Short Cinema Journal is a DVD magazine with a compilation of independent short films. This first issue was originally released by PolyGram in 1997. It was released again by Warner Bros. on November 23, 1999. The DVD digest has run time of 120 minutes and is titles as Invention. It includes the short film "Some Call It A Sling Blade", which inspired the making of the feature film "Sling Blade." Other selections include "Black Rider," a German piece about racial divides and "Trouble," a piece about a little girl who steals to feed her hobby.
Short Cinema Journal only features award-winning films from film festivals held across the world and is a real treat for art movie lovers. In total it contains 9 short films. Longest of all is Sling Blade. Its story is about a man who was confined to a mental hospital for most of his life and just before his release is interviewed by a reporter. Another impressive short movie is "Black Rider" that is 12 minutes long. This German short film, which won the Academy Award, is about a racist encounter that makes you think beyond the apparent.
